Jane W. Newburger, MD, MPH

Jane W. Newburger, M.D., M.P.H., is the Commonwealth Professor of Pediatrics at Harvard Medical School and Associate Cardiologist in Chief for Academic Affairs at Boston Children’s Hospital.  Her research has focused on prospective cohort studies and clinical trials in congenital and acquired pediatric heart disease. Continuously NIH-funded since 1982, she is currently a PI for UG-1 and UM-1 grants from the NHLBI, as well as PI of a randomized clinical trial funded by the Department of Defense. Newburger received the 2018 AHA Paul Dudley White Award, a 2018 William Silen Lifetime Achievement in Mentoring Award from Harvard Medical School, the 2009 Meritorious Achievement Award of the Cardiovascular Disease in the Young Council of the AHA, the 2009 AHA Clinical Research Prize, and the 2007 Distinguished Scientist Award (Clinical) of the American College of Cardiology (ACC).  She is an author of more than 450 original peer-reviewed manuscripts, chapters, and reviews. In addition to her research, Newburger maintains an active clinical practice comprised of patients with congenital and acquired heart disease.
